Verdict of death by own action in Mrs Thelma Houldsworth case
In Princeton a coroner's jury ruled death by own action in the gunshot death of 39 year old Mrs Thelma Houldsworth. She shot herself at home after an evening in Bluefield with her husband Arthur Houldsworth. The husband, a shoe department head in Bluefield, reported she had slept poorly and would use the radio downstairs.

Murder Trial Opens in Fayette for Preston Coates
Fayetteville—In Fayette Circuit Court the trial of Preston Coates for the murder of Earl Beckner last June began. Witnesses described Beckner driving along a Eagle road when a crowd of Negroes gathered at a party sparked the fatal stabbing by Coates as Beckner stopped. Beckner then drove a short distance before Wesley Treadway took over to a gas station in Kincaid where Beckner was found dead.
