Fire Destroys Tipple Burns Store and Home in Red Star

Fire at Red Star damaged the grocery store on Hilltop owned by Mr and Mrs Charles Monar chik and a two story home belonging to William Banks. The store stock was lost while most home furniture was saved. Earlier a mine tipple at Red Star sustained about 100 in damage. the Oak Hill Fire Department arrived at 7 30 am and extinguished the flames. Officials blamed defective wiring for the store blaze and a spark from an acetylene torch for the tipple fire.

Bragg Funeral Set For Tomorrow

Funeral services for Joe C. Bragg 73 of Mount Hope Route 1 will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Searcre Presbyterian Church with burial in Hilltop Cemetery. Bragg who died yesterday at Oak Hill Hospital after a six month illness is survived by a large family including four brothers and five sisters and several children. His body will be moved to the Scarbro home of his daughter this afternoon.

66 Criminal Trials Docketed in Raleigh

Black Eagle Man Accused of Reported Incident

Farley, formerly Black Eagle resident Arvister Stall writes that Mullens-Ray Farley awaits trial in Wyoming Circuit Court February term on an indictment for a reported incident. Mary Vance said Farley slapped her knocked her down and confronted her while drinking. State police arrested him at his house after finding him hiding in the attic. Farley’s wife said there were five potatoes for four children and that he had not provided for the family for some time.

Man Held On Bad Check Counts In Raleigh County

Dewey E. Farley of Pemberton was arrested and jailed in Raleigh County on charges of passing bad checks totaling nearly 400 dollars. Deputy W B Gilkerson made the arrest and Farley was to be arraigned before Magistrate George O Mills. Two warrants on similar charges were reported by Magistrate J P Meadows.

Damage Suits Totalling 60000 Filed Against Mullens Taxi Man

Six plaintiffs sue Mullens cab operator Enoch Wilcox for 25000 to 15000 in related injuries from a June wreck near Allen Junction. Other cases include disputes involving Linette Tolliver, Nelva Hypes Webster, and the Wyoming County Board of Education among others in the circuit court.

Greer Receives One Year Jail Term in Raleigh County Case

R W Greer 31 of East Beck ley Raleigh County faces 12 months in county jail after pleading guilty to petit larceny. He was previously convicted of grand larceny and had a sentence extended after a prior conviction. The state supreme court remanded due to a faulty search warrant. He was linked to receiving five tires and one truck tire from Raleigh Tire and Rubber Company amid a theft ring, described as the gang boss.

Oak Hill Wash House Damaged by Fire at East End

Defective wiring caused a blaze that damaged the wash house of W. C. Farley in East End around 10 45 am yesterday. A washing machine and canned foods were destroyed. Assistant Fire Chief Arthur Akers urged motorists to pull aside when the fire whistle sounds and noted incidents at a service station and a non stopping truck delaying the response and risking crew safety.

Negro Dies After Alleged Auto Crash Injuries

Frank Brown 55 of East Beckley died at a local hospital at 7 last night claiming head injuries from an automobile accident on January 11. State Police had no record of the crash. Brown, a foreman and employee of Scolia Coal Company, Brooklyn, died about 7:30. Body removed to Trent Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Ada Greer 46 who died Wednesday at her Beckley home will be held at 2 p m Saturday at the home of her step daughter Mrs Henry W White East Beckley. Miller Infant Dies In Local Hospital

James French Miller Jr a 19 day old infant of 309 Pike Street died at 11 30 pm Thursday in a local hospital. He is survived by his parents paternal grandparents Charles R Miller Beckley and maternal grandparents Bud Lovell Sophia. The body will be moved from Calfee Funeral Home to the residence at 6 pm today for services at 2 pm Saturday with Rev W J Blair of Sophia officiating. Burial will be in Calfee Cemetery Mt Tabor.
