Sullivan Road bridge delay blamed on footers and problems
A State Department of Highways spokesman in Princeton said the 4 Sullivan Road bridge project in Raleigh County is stalled by concrete footers and other issues. Since demolition on December 22, about 250 families on Secondary Route 25 face longer trips, with residents from Glen Morgan and Piney Creek reporting detours of 5 to 20 miles. A crew of eight worked on the ridge, but initial problems included a bulldozer ruined by sugar in its motor and unexpected loose silty sand, delaying progress. The department hopes to finish by January 16 once weather allows pouring footers and resuming full crew activity.
