Short In Wiring Blamed For Fire In One-Room Building
A short in wiring of an electric refrigerator started a fire in a one room building behind Gibson Hotel in Oceana. Fire Chief Bernard Bailey says damage estimates are 5 dollars to the building and 75 dollars to furnishings, not covered by insurance. The structure was owned by J. R. Gibson and occupied by Ad Higgins. Fire trucks from Oceana responded, initially thought to be the hotel fire.

Funeral Saturday For Pvt Burke Wilson Jr
Funeral services for Pvt Burke Wilson Jr., 23, Route 2 Fayetteville, will be held at 2 pm Saturday in the Dodd Payne Funeral Home chapel with Rev. William Seacrist officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park. Wilson died after a short illness in a German hospital on February 16. The body will remain at the funeral home until after services.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows will sponsor a chicken and oyster supper on March 14 in Whitesville. Whitesville Laboka Rebekah Lodge will assist with preparations. The Oceana Rotary Club hosts its annual pancake fry this Saturday in the high school cafeteria serving pancakes sausage and trims from 5 to 8 pm Tickets are $1 for adults and 50 cents for children under 12. Crawford Brother Undergoes Navy Injury Surgery at VA Beckley
James E. Crawford son of Mr and Mrs W T Crawford of Holly and formerly of Summerlee is in the Veterans Administration Hospital Beckley. He will have further surgery on a leg injury from his U S Navy service after a 20 month stay at the Navy Hospital Bethesda Maryland.
