Former Oak Hill Flyer Dies After Plane Crash

Paul Carpenter of Columbus died in a hospital after injuries from a Sunday airplane crash near Oak Hill. His brother Jack is hospitalized with severe injuries from the same crash. Paul formerly worked with New River Music Company of Oak Hill and held a private pilot license earned in Florida.

Frances Vernon Taken By Death Friday Rites Set

Frances Vernon 86 a Mount Hope resident who drove the mail route in a Model T for about 30 years died at her home after years of declining health. Surviving are four daughters two sons 27 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 pm at the Mount Hope Christian Church with burial in Highlawn Memorial Park Oak Hill. The Colling Funeral Home Glen Jean is handling arrangements.

Feed Company Moves Into New Building

Fayetteville's Fayette Feed Company now operates from a new 25 by 50 two story brick building. J R Caldwell runs the business with son Walter handling accounting and insurance work. The top floor displays baby chicks grain and supplies while the basement stores hay and fertilizers. An eight inch circulating heater maintains stable temperatures for thousands of daily chick sales.

Mrs. Shawkey Re-Opens Fayetteville Restaurant

Mrs. Charles Shawkey of Fayetteville re enters the restaurant business by purchasing the lunch room beside the Fayette Theater from Mr and Mrs John Lee Settle. She previously operated the eatery before selling it to the Settes last fall.

Mount Hope George Aide of Aide's Department Store has been ill for over two weeks with dinveles. He was taken to Beckley hospital last week and reported to be in very critical condition requiring blood transfusions.

Chesapeake & Ohio declares quarterly dividend of 75 cents

Directors of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company declare the usual quarterly dividend of 75 cents a share on the common stock payable April 11 to stock of record March 8. Other business at the meeting was routine. The U S Department of Agriculture estimates only two acres of agricultural land are available per person worldwide.

Mullens Hill Boy Held For Probation Violation Theft

A 14 year old Mullens Hill youth, probated until 21, is jailed in Wyoming County after admitting thefts at First Methodist Church and a purse theft from a Mullens Hill girl. Police say he confessed stealing $10 plus $3.50 to the March of Dimes and is to be sent to a reform school.

Britain in Palestine Proposes Three Part Plan on Conflict

British colonial secretary Arthur Creech Jones said Britain would not set the dates for troop actions. The Colombian proposal asks for a five-nation consultative process to address threats to peace from partition and to form a committee to bridge Jewish and Arab differences while urging a possible special session with UN Lie to reconsider partition. Britain would delay its Palestine mandate termination from May 15 to July 15 and push back troop evacuations from August 1.

District superintendent T Stromp of the Chesapeake and Fotomac Telephone Company Beckley will meet the Oak Hill Chamber of Commerce at city hall on March 4 to discuss a resolution supporting dial telephone installation in Oak Hill. The Lions Club will also discuss the subject and submitted a similar resolution.
