Oak Hill Mullens Game Postponed In Weather

Oak Hill Red Devils and Mullens Rebels postponed the basketball game scheduled in Mullens tonight due to over conditions. Coaches Jennings and D Antonio agreed the game should not be replayed because both teams have full schedules this week and upcoming sectional tournaments start next week.

Last Rites Incomplete For Barney Bell at Kilsyth

Funeral plans are incomplete for Barney Bell 39 of Kilsyth who died yesterday morning after a two and a half week illness. The body remains at Collins Funeral Home Thurmond awaiting arrangements. Bell worked as a miner for New River Company. Survivors include his wife Elsie Buckland Bell mother Mrs Madie Bell two sisters and one brother and two children Jackie Lee and Elizabeth.

Driving Still Bad In Fayette County

Driving conditions in Fayette County remained poor with all primary roads open. Chains were advised as readings ranged from 19 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit, two inches of snowfall for the day, and Sewell Mountain reported 18 inches of snow with light traffic. City buses and Greyhound operated on schedule while school attendance stayed under 50 percent.

Last Rites Held For Mrs. Lelia Weeks

Funeral services for Mrs. Lelia Ann Weeks of Gauley Bridge were held Saturday at the Baptist Church. She died Thursday at home at age 65. Weeks was a clerk with the C&O Railway Co. She was a sister of Misses Molly and Laila Cavendish of Gauley Bridge and W. S. Cavendish of Beckley.

Mullens Girl Fractures Skull While Sledding

Nona Ingledew 16 of South Mullens lies in Taylor Dearing hospital with a fractured skull after a sledding accident on Poplar Street last night at 8 30. Dr Harwood A Taylor said X rays show the fracture but the condition is not serious. She was sleigh riding with other youths when another sled struck her and knocked her onto concrete.

Three Men Charged With Gambling

Three men Joseph Hy der Mullens Elmer McKinney and Glenn Blankenship were arrested by Patrolman Haynes Davidson for gambling at a Chinese laundry. They posted bond for a 9 am appearance before City Clerk G B McGraw but failed to appear. The proprietor offered shirts as leverage to avoid jail.

Marianna Soldier Assigned to Italy with 88th Division

Marianna Private Thomas A. Day is stationed in Gorizia Italy with the 88th Blue Devil division. He arrived amid a tense Venezia Guilia province situation and serves in the motor section with jeep and Army vehicle experience. Accident Case Settled Out of Court in Police Court

Miss Rezzonico and John Bailey were ordered to settle their accident case out of court at a police court hearing. The collision on Moran Avenue occurred Saturday afternoon, involving a 1943 Plymouth driven by Miss Rezzonico and an army model dump truck driven by Bailey. Both vehicles were badly damaged and could not move from the scene.
