At a meeting of the American Legion the junior team manager reported 86 boys showing interest with 14 to be chosen at tryouts next week. A seven member committee will raise funds for a drive ending March 20 and 21 with a school auditorium play by local talent.
The Stand ard Fire Creek Coal Company renewed leases on three Quinnimont District tracts totaling 1,855.95 acres. The land, part of the original acreage in operation since 1939, lies on properties owned by John F. Ginestra, Elizabeth Gallaway, Molly and R. T. McClure, and Luda Mae Ginestra, per county clerk records.
Mount Hope notes report ministers of Mount Hope plan a program under Rev E B Lambert. Edgar Lambert of Mount Hope begins duties as teacher of fish and geography at King High School. Thomas Barillier, in Germany with the Army since 1946, is promoted to Corporal. he is the son of Mrs Marie Miller and Mrs D Je Clay.

Fayette County Tuberculosis Association sponsors a monthly chest clinic on February 35 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Dr. J. B Haegarty’s Layland office. Attendees include referrals by local physicians, previous clinic suspects, exisanitarium patients and families, contacts of TB cases, and those showing symptoms.
Mrs. Alex Gray was chosen president of the Fayetteville Methodist Church Women’s Auxiliary. New officers include B. K. Hesse as vice president and E. Darnell as secretary with multiple specialized secretaries. Several officers were carried over for two more years and Geraldine Akers discussed missionary work in Brazil. Also two marriage licenses were issued in Fayetteville County Clerk office to Bodner Molnary and Straughter Serre.
Mrs Gracie Elien Crouse 81 died Wednesday at her daughter Carries home on Summeriee Avenue Oak Hill. Services will be at Oak Hill Brethren Church at 2 30 PM with Rev Smith Rose Dr L Tyler and Rev A A Angle officiating. Burial at Chestnut Grove cemetery Fayetteville Route 1. Survived by son Hugh Crouse Fayetteville Route 1 and daughter Carrie Crouse Oak Hill.
The Register Stall reports Fayette County is blanketed with snow varying by location from Sewell Mountain six inches to Oak Hill five inches and four inches in the Montgomery area. Temperatures dipped to 29 at night with a 22 low. State Road officials note no accident calls.

Three cars collided in Itmann on a Wednesday afternoon with no injuries reported. John Harris of Itmann drove a 1938 Buick that was hit when a 1937 Hudson driven by Clarence Pierce stopped abruptly. Roy Kemp of Mullens then piled into Pierce’s car. Property damage was not estimated.

In Mullens area mines during the first half of February heavy winter weather reduced coal output by 24 400 tons compared with the same period a month earlier. About 825 500 tons were loaded for the month thus far and 621 850 tons were carried in the 13 day half week. Virginian Railway records show 12 437 cars loaded in the first half of February with 9 079 to tidewater ports and 3 033 shipped inland.
The Civil Service Commission announces an exam to fill a fourth class postmaster position in Pineville with a salary of 1584 dollars. Open to U S citizens or allegiance, ages 21 to 64, residing in the post office territory. Applications and requirements from the Pineville post office. must be filed in Washington by March 13. Admission cards will mail exam dates. Also notes Garden Club meeting in Mullens and Billy Jo Cook’s business trip to Cincinnati Ohio.
Castle Rock Bank opened in Pineville with doors opened just after 9 a m to admit snowbound patrons. President Elmer W Cook and cashier W J Billig led the staff as deposits rushed in. The bank, chartered November 25 1946 with 40000 in capital and 15000 paid in surplus, held an open house later in the evening and was acknowledged by 25 to 30 banks nationwide.
Four Wyoming County men Lee Green Floyd Stevens Sherman Newcomb and Columbus Pack were fined $10 and costs by Magistrate W B Wilson Pineville. The complaint was by Madison Straley assistant attendance director Wyoming County schools from Baileysville.
