Directors To Select Commerce Officers in Oak Hill

A joint re organization meeting of the Oak Hill Rotary Lions and Chamber of Commerce elected seventeen directors to nominate 1947 officers. G McDowell urged strong Chamber participation as key to a live progressive community. Lt Col Daniel Holliday outlined National Guard enlistment plans for Company E with seven officers and 188 enlisted men and potential $50,000 annual community impact. Mayor Claude R Hill endorsed the city manager form of government and urged citizen consideration.

Oak Hill shoplifting trio fined for $2.45 thefts

Three Fay residents pleaded guilty to stealing $2.45 worth of goods from the Oak Hill Kroger store. Magistrate W H Lev and store manager said authorities will prosecute future offenders. The case cited ongoing shoplifting losses averaging 30 to 40 dollars weekly.

Sole Survivor Of Train Auto Crash Taken To Hospital

MEADOW BRIDGE Mrs Her man Peters 27 of Charmco sole survivor of an automobile train wreck at Meadow Bridge Wednesday in which six other occupants of the car were killed has been moved to the Lewis Gale Hospital in Roanoke VA. Mrs Peters sustained a broken leg and possible skull and spine injuries in the collision which killed her daughters Catherine 4 and Judy 6. Others killed were Charlie Ross 25 and his wife 22 of East Rainelle and Mrs Ethel Sowers Dudley 29 Radford VA. The bodies of the Peters children were removed to Floyd VA for funerals. Double funeral services for Mr Peters and Mrs Ross will be held Sunday at two o'clock at Layland. Mrs Ross formerly Mildred Nutler of Layland was an only child. Pat Dudley 33 husband of Mrs Dudley died en route in The East Rainelle General Hospital.

Mrs Jean Blake Honored At Oceana Anniversary Party

Mrs Jean Blake celebrated the anniversary of her arrival in the United States as she hosted a party Tuesday night at her Oceana home. Mrs Blake, wife of Pat Blake, was among the first English brides of American servicemen to arrive in the States, according to Register staff writer.

County Pupils To Attend Forum

Oak Hill High School students from Fayetteville Mount Hope and Montgomery will join the Rotary Institute of International Understanding opening Monday in Oak Hill. Secretary Charles L. Garvin outlined four speakers and the program’s aim to promote world peace through international understanding. The Fayette County Board of Education will provide transportation and each group will have a chaperone.
