The Public Health Service approved a federal grant of 29 407 for Whitesville to build a sewage treatment plant. The project totals about 107 225 and includes an interceptor sewer pumping station and primary treatment facility, requested by Mayor H F Morgan under the reverse Water Pollution Control Act.

Two Hinton Taxi Co. employees, missing since Sunday, were found Tuesday at an isolated farmhouse 27 miles north of Summers County. They had taken a fare to Greenbrier County and were unharmed after the cab became marooned in a five foot snow drift. rescuers reached them by bulldozer.
Oak Hill West Virginia reports gas pressure has built up and should be normal today. Prisoners from Fayette County Jail, moved to Beckley and Charleston for heat during the gas crisis, are to be returned to Fayetteville today.
Buell Hatfield, Coal Mountain constable, posted a $2000 bond Tuesday in the Circuit Clerk’s office after his Monday indictment by the Grand Jury for felonious wounding tied to a Friday shooting of Shirley Brewster in Baileysville. Deputy Ballard Riffe made the arrest at Don Hatfield’s place.
Whitesville RNS Boone County young Democrat Club schedules open meeting at Madison Courthouse on February 28 at 7 30 p m. The session will plan club goals and enroll new members as a county wide drive continues with membership cards issued to newcomers. The group has flown Democrat principles since October 1957 and sent delegates to the state convention.

Whitesville area hearts fundraiser set for Saturday March 1 with door to door canvassing by the Whitesville Theta Rita Girls under Mrs Sempson and Mrs Thompson to raise money for the Boone County Heart Fund. Manning Boggs heads the drive appointed by Joe Burdett of the West Virginia Heart Association.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Culloden for Claude Steed who died Monday evening in Charleston General Hospital after a heart attack. Mullens High School will undergo April evaluation by a committee of the North Central Association of Secondary Schools. The process uses a standard points system assessing teacher certification facilities curriculum and programs plus follow up on graduates and dropouts. Committees were appointed to prepare written reports on follow up handbook curriculum community philosophy and other areas.
The Rev Galen Work of First Presbyterian Whitesville announced a World Day of Prayer service to be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Colcord headquarters of the West Virginia Mountain Project. Whitesville Orgas and Dry Creek churches are invited, with similar arrangements reported by Rev Harvey Bates of Monteval Edwight and Stickney churches.

Colcord report notes Miss Avonelie Halstead a Marin Memorial Hospital nurse is snowbound at her parents home and unable to return to duty. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs A J Halstead Colcord. Miss Frances Cook Brutefield arrived Friday to visit Miss Jean Elkins and her grandmother.
Charleston Beer Commissioner Roy D Platt announced the revocation of two licenses and suspension of three others. The City View license for William A Coffman’s estate in Graf ton was revoked for illegal beer sales between midnight and 7 am. Ruth Horn trading as Kentucky Tavern at Fort Gay in Wayne County had a license revoked with bond forfeiture for keeping and exhibiting gaming devices. Also suspended were Shinus Billiard Porter of Fairmont for 25 days for exhibiting gaming devices, R B Stiltner of Ray's Drive In in Kermit for 40 days for after hours beer sale, and Mae Berta of Ma's Hut in Oceana for 40 days for possession in sale of liquor.

Buford Mans resigned after a brief tenure at Sophia. Winfrey, a Mercer County native who arrived in Sophia 29 years ago and has pursued barbering, was appointed mayor with a term expiring in July 1959.
