Leonard Burkes of Glen Daniel was held in Huntington by U S Commissioner W A Riffe after a hearing on charges of operating a moonshine still. Arrested by State Police and a Treasury Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Division agent, he was jailed at 7 p.m. Also jailed were George Eugene Chaffins of Black Eagle and Oscar Eugene Waycaster, both from Wyoming County, taken by State Police on breaking and entering charges for entering Bonney Blue Wrecking Co Amigo. The owner, armed, held them until troopers arrived and notified police. Walter E Adams, address unknown, is jailed awaiting arraignment on drunkenness and board bill failure charges, in jail since 10:30 Thursday.

Charleston State Tax Commissioner John A. Field Jr was reappointed today by Gov. Underwood. Field, a Republican, was made tax commissioner Jan 26, 1957 for an unexpired term ending Feb 28. His six year term runs at the governor’s will. The 48 year old Charleston native entered politics in 1947 as councilman at large after law practice and WWI naval service. He led City Council as president and chaired its finance committee 1951 to 1955. Salary is $10,000 a year.

White Oak Man Faces Grand Jury Action
