Eight year old Jackie Walters of Madison was dragged about 50 feet by a Chesapeake and Ohio freight train while playing near tracks behind Cohen Drug Store. He had his right leg amputated at Madison General Hospital and remains in satisfactory condition.

Missing Pocahontas County Girl Sparks Police Probe
Patricia Ellen Lantz, 15, of Black Mountain Road, disappeared January 24 after alighting from a school bus and entering a waiting car. The Carpenters Raymond and Mrs Carpenter of Frank are charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and bound over to the grand jury. A reward exceeding $600 is offered for information. The Carpenters deny knowledge of the girl and pastor Raymond Carpenter says he was in Cumberland, Maryland, seeing a doctor.
