Whitesville RNS reports the Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Boone County's Wharton on Wednesday. The venue is the new Wharton gym, sponsored by the Wharton Woman's Club with Mrs Maxine Jarrell as chairwoman. A 100 pint blood quota has been set and club members are collecting pledges this week. In prior visits the club has driven the program's success. Mrs Jarrell can be reached at home by telephone for pledges.

Jess Cook Stranded Aided by Old Friend
Jess Cook, a patient at Williamson Miners Memorial Hospital since December, was allowed to spend days at his Oceana home before returning for a check-up. He and his son Harold Cook got stranded by flood waters in Mingo County after leaving the hospital. Harve Mitcham, a former coworker, helped them reach his nearby home and hosted them overnight. By Wednesday afternoon they reached Oceana as the hospital area remained cut off by Tug River floods with no power heat water food or drugs for a 24 hour period.

Whitesville Odd Fellows Lodge outlined two social events at a Saturday meeting. A box supper or pie social will take place March 2 in the Lodge Hall with public attendance and bidding on boxes by men, mirroring olden days. A Homecoming is planned for late spring with date to be set. Also noted were officer installations delayed in four district lodges due to high water conditions. Keen and staff will visit Delbarton, Kermit, Gilbert, and Matowan. Omar Lodge meets in new quarters after its building was requisitioned by a coal company and plans cooperation with two other lodges on a community lodge building.
