West Virginia Athlete of the Year award split views
Jerry West, Lakers rookie and West Virginia Amateur Athlete of the Year for 1960, says the honor should not be awarded twice to the same person. The WV Sports Writers Association picked West for the second straight year. Weirton star Bob Kelley, Ed Tutwiler, and Bruce Meredith received other votes. West also starred in a 23-point Lakers win over the Knicks. Dartmouth selects James Lemen as next season captain. West, co-captain of the US Olympic team, is noted among two-time winners in WVU history.
