Safety review targets Eccles No 18 mine safeguards

A Bureau of Mines reinspection of Eccles No. 18 mine by Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates proposes added safeguards to meet the Federal Mine Safety Code. The mine, with 518 workers and averaging 2,150 tons daily, warrants bocking during cutting to prevent coal rolling and firing on-shift shots only after charging. Recommendations include removing obstructions in clearance spaces and ensuring ample clearance at unloading points.
