United Press International reports the National Safety Council forecasts 420 to 480 more highway deaths over the four day New Year weekend. It will end 1962 with over 40,000 highway fatalities the highest year on record. Final toll for the 102 hour Christmas period stood at 654 deaths nationwide. Alaska New Hampshire and Wyoming posted no traffic deaths. The council also estimated 18 000 to 21 000 serious injuries from holiday traffic incidents.

Three Tots Slip On Icy Rocks Plunge To Death
Three children died after slipping on icy rocks while descending a mountainside near their Ogden homes. Identified as Mark Way nine, Shauna Southwick nine, and Bonnie Ross eight, they fell 500 feet from a sheer cliff. A Marlin P M 1 seaplane with 13 officers and men was reported missing from North Island Naval Air Station. The Navy and Coast Guard launched a search after the aircraft failed to return from a routine patrol at 4 30 p m Wednesday. Recommended Budget To Be Completed Today
The Board of Public Works expects to finalize a 1963 64 state budget totaling 148 380 000 for submission to the 1963 Legislature. The figure is 10 000 under the 148 390 000 recommended by State Finance Commissioner Truman Gore. The Finance and Administration Department will print the final version for lawmakers convening January 9.
