Christmas Dinner Prominent at Mount Hope Presbyterian

The Men’s Sunday School class at Mount Hope Presbyterian held its annual Christmas dinner in the church lower auditorium with over 50 attendees. Dewitt Snyder led the meeting. Charles Garvin spoke. Tom Twaddle thanked the group and urged continued cooperation with new officers. Dale Olwin elected president. other officers named. Guests included Rev. Clarence Figpath, Rev. L. C. Lambert, and Mayor P. H. Garrett. A children’s program is planned for Monday night.

Mount Hope decorates streets and churches for Christmas as city workers hang colored lights and a 100 foot tree tops the Baptist Temple yard. Oak Hill hosts a Navy recruiting station in the post office building with Chief Torpedoman T F Schmidl conducting sessions Fridays. Warren H Smith, 17, from Howard S Smith Shads Springs, has begun recruit training at the Naval Training Center Bainbridge Md. He enlisted December 10 for four years.

Police Seek Driver After 14-Year-Old Killed

Deepwater police search for a driver who struck David Carol Camer, 14, on State Route 6 near Deepwater on December 15. The youth died December 18 in Montgomery Hospital from head, kidney, and brain injuries. A 1936–1940 sedan with missing paint and damaged grille was described. two other youths were said to be with the driver as they left toward Oak Hill.

Tax Collector Offers Help With 1946 Tax Declarations

Fayetteville reports a deputy internal revenue collector will be at the courthouse January 7 from 9 p m to 5 p m to aid those filing 1946 estimated income tax declarations. Assistance is available to those with no tax liability by January 14 1945 and to those uncertain of their liability. Rules cover wages, dependents, and farming income with several January 1947 deadlines and options to file or pay without a separate declaration.

Pineville man posts bond after $100 robbery charge

Freeman Lambert, 20, of Pineville, was released under a $500 bond after waiving a preliminary hearing on a charge of stealing a filling station box containing $1900. A Pineville City Council meeting to discuss two robberies in a week was postponed until January as police plan night patrols before railroads arrive.

Brule Smokeless Xmas Party Distributes Gifts In Brule

Brule Smokeless Coal Company employees and families received Christmas gifts as two truckloads of merchandise were distributed at a Sunday event in Pineville. Over 450 gifts were handed out, aided by employee fund contributions matched by the company to a record total of 1150. Holly de Saint Nick attended, giving gifts to children with their parents present. Corliss Man Now Serving In Japan By Recaster State Godby, son of Oliver Godby of Corliss, serves with the 724th Ordnance Company in the 24th Division on Kyushu, Japan. He enlisted in February 1946 at Camp Atterbury and trained at Aberdeen Proving Grounds and Edgewood Arsenal before joining the 24th Division in September. Godby noted improvements in living conditions and recreational facilities for military and civilian personnel.

Lt. Commander Robert Tully and Lt. Commander Jack M. Tully, formerly based in Charleston and Washington, along with James S.
