Two Powers Exist God and Satan at Crouchland Church

Rev Hansel Cook preached that only two powers truly exist, God and Satan, at Clearfork Valley Baptist Church in Crouchland. The church, organized Feb 25 1940 with 27 charter members on E H Crouch farm, has about 36 members now and was damaged by fire in December 1956 undergoing repairs.

Flood Control Talks Tackle Guyandotte Valley Dams

Logan County meeting outlines flood control needs along the Guyandotte and tributaries. Col. H J Skidmore and Sen Revercomb led discussions on small headwater dams, land rights, and required funding of 15 000 for 1958 and 30 000 for 1959. Attendees heard testimonies on disaster damages and the engineering effort to plan a feasible project.

Dinner Speaker District Engineer at Pineville Christmas Dinner

State Road Commission held a Christmas dinner for about 100 in Pineville at the Cow Shed. Speakers included District 10 Chief Engineer J Alfred Haw and others from Mullens and surrounding offices. Musical entertainment featured Salt River Sacred Singers and local fiddler Dewey McKinney with Ona Brown. W J Pugh coordinated arrangements.

Fayette County Board Limits Spending to Core Curriculum

Fayetteville West Virginia. Fayette County Board of Education approved a staff recommendation to direct funds toward basic curriculum and limit extra curricular spending. Athletic programs and bands would be self supported, and no year’s budget would exceed 1956-57 levels. Upcoming measures include a March 25 levy date and selling several school properties.

Infant Dies at Birth in New Richmond

The infant child of Mr and Mrs Donald Cline was born dead early today. The body is at Robertson and Fortesong Funeral Home pending completion of arrangements.

Two Released On Bond Face Grand Jury Action

PAYETTEVILLE RNS Two men held to grand jury on grand larceny charges linked to copper wire thefts in a hearing before Magistrate Virgil Lyons. George Asbury, 23, Oak Hill, and Charles L. Brown, 37, Layland, charged with theft of 1362 pounds of copper feeder line from Branch Fuel Company Lawton valued at 217.20. Asbury arrested Saturday and Brown Sunday. Asbury also charged with another copper wire theft from same company valued at 160.20. Bonds set at 1000 for Asbury and 500 for Brown. Investigating deputies were L W Fox Pete Withrow Fred O Boyle Buddy Crouch and Earl Dempsey.

Whitesville Church Gala Yale Program Saturday

Whitesville First Presbyterian Church hosts a Yale program with a Christmas concert Saturday 7 30 p m. A Sunday 3 30 p m choir of about 30 voices from West Virginia Mountain Project joins the event. Republican Club Meeting in Whitesville

The Boone County Young Republican Club will meet at 8 p.m. today at the Whitesville Hotel. President Rufus Kannon of Whitesville will lead. The county is split into two sections with Whitesville as headquarters for Coal River area and Madison for that region. Temporary officers Kannon and Dewey Harless of Whitesville will preside until spring elections.
