Coal Pipeline Opposition Spreads in Mullens PTA Meeting

A representative group urged Mullens residents to oppose a proposed coal pipeline to the East Coast. Spokesman Walter Fisher, backed by E S Elliott and Leland Harless, argued eminent domain rights would hurt the local economy, tax revenue, and school funding, as petitions and further meetings were planned. The effort, supported by railroad workers and small mine operators, cites 15,000 railroad jobs at risk and tax losses. Elliott said the County Planning Committee would go on record against the proposal.
