Commerce Commissioner Hulett Smith said it would cost 800000 dollars for West Virginia to run a representative exhibit at the New York World's Fair. The plan envisions dismantling the building and returning it to Charleston to be rebuilt as a state museum or library after the five year fair ends in 1968.
Charleston and Morgantown reported overnight lows near 15 degrees as the U S Weather Bureau recorded the coldest early season temperatures in the Mountain State. Flat Top and other areas dipped to 9 degrees with lows in Elkins 12 and in Huntington 14. Temperatures were forecast to rise to 20 to 26 degrees with snow flurries possible Friday in northern and southern West Virginia.
Cloudy tonight with a risk of snow or sleet and lows in the 20s. Friday remains cloudy with mixed snow, sleet or rain. River conditions show Greenbrier muddy and above normal, Lake Bluestone muddy and rising then falling, gauge at 6.8 ft. State reports show Dickinson North Dakota and Glasgow Montana recorded the coldest morning, while Ft Myers and Vero Beach Florida reached highs near 86.
A passenger train struck a school bus at a Weld County crossing near Greeley Colorado killing 18 children and injuring about 30 others. The bus was en route to Delta Elementary with students from most local families. Authorities continued a full investigation as ambulances rushed victims to Weld County Hospital.
In Wheeling five men were arrested in one of the first raids under new federal anti crime laws. U S Attorney Robert E Maxwell said more raids may follow in West Virginia as federal agents probe gambling and possible interstate links. Those charged were Anthony Zambito Tom Scarber Arthur Hale James Rogerson and Alfred Prim. All posted bond.
Eight men including a former Truman tax official and three ex convicts were named in a court order to appear with records. The affidavit says an unregistered company promoted a film about St Patrick with false statements and unwitting endorsements from Cardinal Godfrey and Dublin officials.
Candidates eye the May Primary with several incumbents indicating plans to seek re election. Circuit Clerk C Harold Hanks will run again while A J Lilly and G C Porter pledge re election bids. Others undecided include O A Phillips W W Jackie Withrow and D W Kinzer. federal seat John Slack to file in Charleston. Forms available now at Hanks office with deadline Feb 3 at midnight.
Five more $50,000 suits were filed by Heck's discount store employees against Huntington department store managers who issued warrants for blue law arrests. The actions, totaling $400,000 with three filed earlier, claim invalid warrants and violations of constitutional rights. Plaintiffs allege arrest under John Doe and Mary Doe warrants and being treated as criminals. Defendants include R. P. Mann, W. H. Morgan, and J. T. Campbell of Sears Roebuck and J C Penney.
A new UN disarmament push emerges after Moscow and Washington reach a mutually agreed plan. An 18 nation committee, formed with US and Soviet input and approved by the General Assembly, will begin work on disarmament principles laid out by John J. McCloy and Valerian A. Zorin once technical steps are arranged.

Charleston UPI reports the West Virginia Turnpike posted net revenue of 272 051 in November, up about 24 500 from 1960. For the year to date receipts lagged by about 20 006 versus the prior year. tolls reached 311 566 with 157 664 vehicles on the 88 mile stretch between Charleston and Princeton. Operating expenses totaled 57 671.
A former mental patient in Indianapolis killed Hansel Gupton, 64, and Mary Alice Gupton, 58, at their home after entering as a guest. He then attacked a young housewife, choked a 2-year-old, and fled in a stolen car before police recovered the vehicle. The suspect, Watson Young Jr., 31, is believed to be at large. Authorities say the motive remains undetermined and he may have acted during a mental health crisis.
Anna Mary Robertson Moses known as Grandma Moses died at 101 in Hoosick Falls after a fall and pneumonia. President Kennedy and others mourned her. she began painting at 77 using barn paints and mail order brushes, achieving global fame with primitive rural scenes. Funeral is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in Eagle Bridge with burial at Maple Grove Cemetery.
A regional group of assessors from Raleigh Mercer Logan Mingo McDowell Boone Fayette and Wyoming counties will meet Friday in Raleigh County Courthouse to seek a uniform basis for valuing coal producing properties. Led by Raleigh County Assessor Cotton White the 10:30 a.m. session aims to align real and personal property assessments under the reappraisal program and foster public understanding. The plan has approval from Joseph E. Fox Greenbrier County president of the State Assessors Association, with other counties anticipated to join.
The state Board of Public Works criticized attempts by spending units to gain across the board pay raises for the next fiscal year. Gov. W. W. Barron urged removing all proposed salary increases, suggesting isolated raises only if properly justified, with general increases likely to be slashed by the Legislature.

West Virginia’s traffic toll rose to 348 for the year after a double fatality in Pocahontas County and separate wrecks in Harrison and Nicholas counties. Wilbur J. Boggs, 32, died from injuries near Marlinton with Mary Joy Martin, 29, killed at the scene. Birtie Fletcher, 55, of near Jane Lew, was killed in a collision on U S 19 near Clarksburg. Galen Joe Mullins, 19, of Belva, home for the holidays, died when his car wrecked on West Virginia 39 west of Summersville.
An official said a $5.44 million Navy contract will bring work for up to 600 people at Marietta Manufacturing Co in Pt. Pleasant West Virginia. The firm will build two 208 foot research ships, displacement 1 350 tons, with completion over about 22 months for the first and two years for the second.
Joseph E. Hodgson will be guest of honor at Pinecrest patients Christmas party at the Sanitarium this evening. Mrs. Roy Herndon invited the state official for recreation at the institution. Appalachian Bible Institute students will present a program in the auditorium for ambulatory patients, followed by a reception in the dining room. Bedfast patients may listen via hospital radio.
Washington sources say the National Guard and Army reserve could shed six to ten combat divisions while expanding others and upgrading equipment. If Congress approves, civilian reservists may be cut as divisions increase strength from about 13 000 to 15 000 per unit amid Berlin tensions and calls to keep civilian staffs near full strength.

Wheeling police say they broke up a counterfeit trading stamp ring with two arrests on Wednesday night. Keith Miller 28 of Moundsville and James Jochum of Wheeling were charged with selling near perfect Top Value stamps. They allegedly sold or offered books of stamps to service station operators for about half price, with reports the bogus stamps circulated into parts of Ohio.
The Stephenson Post Office was on fire at presstime. Mullens Fire Department battled the blaze. Outside structure remained intact and records were reportedly removed from the building. Post mistress Mrs. Betty Mitchem runs the office in a former store near Stephenson Grade School.
