He died in a local hospital Wednesday night after a short pneumonia illness. Christian Death Called Death by Own Action
A verdict of death by own action was returned in the death of French Christian whose body was found in his Dry Hill Road home yesterday afternoon by his uncle. An inquest led by county coroner Dr. W. W. Hume found the 32 year old brick layer had shot himself with a single barrel shotgun after placing it against his chest and triggering it with the left toe. Relatives said he had been in ill health and had threatened suicide. Christian lived alone for about two weeks since his wife’s visit to Alderson. He leaves a widow and children Helen Charles and Mary Ellen, plus a sister and three brothers. Funeral plans are with Calfee undertakers.

Two Burglaries Hit Beckley Night Stirs Police
Two break ins in Beckley last night drew police attention. At A Trade Place on South Fayette Street thieves smashed a front window and carried off eight suits shoes a dress and a ladies coat valued around 100. A nearby alley yielded the coat. In another home on First Avenue burglars entered a basement pantry stealing canned fruits and vegetables and even the lock. Mrs Kilgore noted this followed a prior Sunday basement raid. State police investigated. Also last night a Royal typewriter was taken from the Palace Theatre office in the Bair building after a lock was sprung. Chief Dick Lewis said only the typewriter and cover were removed.

Emperor Haile Selassie fought during a 17 minute air raid on Dessye as Italian planes bombed the city.
