Mrs. Howard P. Meadows announced Beckley Players will hold tryouts for the week of December 19 on Monday at 7:30 PM on the Memorial building's second floor. Two coal-mining one act plays are planned with last year's tickets valid. Musical features between plays. At least 14 men needed. an executive committee meeting follows at 9 PM.

Four persons died in a head on collision on the Lincoln highway about two miles east of Bedford. William S. Mock, Bedford auto mechanic, was pulled from his burning car but did not survive. A westbound Michigan car carried a man, a woman, and a child. all were badly burned. Patrols could not determine the cause on the straight dry road and sought an Altoona witness. Bodies were taken to Bedford mortuaries.
The case parallels an earlier trial as a 21 year old girl and a boy recount a violent home dispute. The boy claims he fired when his father advanced with a pistol after an automobile dispute. Edith says she struck the man with a slipper as he seized her hair with a knife. The boy surrendered after the slaying of L N Falin in Wildcat Valley. He was held at Big Stone Gap then moved to the county jail.
The Beckley chamber of commerce announces its sixteenth annual banquet at the Presbyterian church floor on Thursday December 1. W A James secretary says the event opens at 6 15 pm with Dr Ruchle Ware of First Christian church delivering the principal address. Directors will be elected for a two year term and the chamber's annual report will be read. Admission is $1 for members and friends, with tickets from the secretary in the Bair building. reservations are urged.

O’Dell and daughters in Beckley, Miss Jessie Fraser of Charleston, and Miss Peggy Duncan. Several residents traveled to Huntington and Parkersburg, with Wytheville guests of Dr. and Mrs. P. E. Prijlaman.

A temporary restraining order blocks a theater tax while court hearings address the ordinance's constitutionality. Jack Marks and Claude Robinson, show owners, warn that if the levy remains illegal the collected funds could not be refunded. The City Council expected annual revenue of about $12,000 to $15,000.
West Virginia's 30 counties will face about 1,000,000 less in property tax this year than in 1933 as expenses fall. Tax Commissioner Fred L. Norma Lee Freeman celebrated her sixth birthday with a party at her grandparents Rance and wife. Friends including Rudolph Meador James Grant Richmond Fawn Richmond and many others attended from two to four with refreshments served. Revival services led by Rev E H Ritchie continued through the week. Thanksgiving program at the school featured patrons in attendance. Various local residents and guests from Raleigh Beckley and Charleston visited or stayed for holidays and meals at homes of Freeman Lilly and Carroll families.
Vivian Shumaker joined Miss Ruth Payne, Miss Geraldine Payne, Edward Foster, and Ed Wolfe for an oyster supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Persinger in East Beckley Saturday night.
Charleston officials say the Liquor Commission will meet Monday to study how the new American Canadian trade treaty, effective January, reduces import duties on Canadian, Scotch and English whiskeys by up to 2.50 a gallon. No cuts take effect for several months. The panel announced plans to open a store at Mannington and another in two weeks at Ronceverte. A Bathurst golf course in South Africa charges six cents green fee.
