Youth Fellowship of the Davis Baptist church and sponsors plan a Christmas dinner for December 20 at 6 p.m. The event, decided at last Sunday's meeting, will be at the home of Mrs. Blanch Lee. Members will exchange gifts.
Glen Rogers Personal notices recount visits and family travel across states. Alderman siblings reunite after 21 years while Cal Tolliver family returns from Pattarson to care for ill Lakey Brooks. Various weekend visitors from Ohio and Dayton feature in the Glen Fork area society notes.
ROCK CREEK RNS The Womens Society of Christian Service of Rebecca Chapel Church met to plan a charity quilt project for Mrs. C. B. Jarrell. Members read scripture, offered prayers, and shared a covered dish. The group scheduled next Thursday at 10 a.m. to work and 7 p.m. for a monthly meeting where Christmas party details and name drawings will be held.
Mrs. Ronald Cook was elected president of the Woman's Missionary Society at the First Baptist Church. A slate of officers and circle chairs were named, with installation planned for December 19. The group discussed study on prejudice, planned a Christmas charity drive, and set December 26 as a rescheduled regular meeting date with December 19 gift exchanges.
Miss Matayla Ann Valentine and Nathan Frederick Deering wed in a double ring ceremony at Greentown Baptist Church. Rev. Sam Abram officiated as organist Louise Terry provided music with soloists Annette Monroe and Barbara Terry. The couple planned to live in East Orange New Jersey.
Land transfers recorded in Fayette County last week include buyers and sellers in Fayetteville and nearby districts. Notable entries show prices ranging from 1 500 to 112 000 dollars with parcels in Mountain Cove DeWitt Montgomery and Gauley Bridge. Names include Secondo Dalporto Earl Mullins Kelly and Wilkerson among others with several family and corporate entities involved.
William H. Davis, 92, father of Oak Hill resident Mrs. Charles Watkins, died Tuesday in Morgantown. A veteran of United States Steel Corp for 32 years, Davis helped lead tinplate operations in early mills and served as Morgantown bank president before consolidation. He came from Wales in 1892 and is survived by his wife Alice Williamson Davis. Funeral services are set for Thursday.
In Phenix Virginia a broken rail on the Virginian Railway caused four freight cars to roll off a 15 foot high trestle on fast freight No. 72 from Roanoke to Norfolk. Four crewmen escaped injury as the bridge, 720 feet long, held the derailed units and four others before cars toppled. Engineer B E Lovero reported taking emergency braking as cars crossed the broken rail.
