Raleigh county taxpayers paid more than 500000 in taxes during the past week with a single check exceeding 99000 from Rowland Land Company and Beaver Coal Company paying 146080.87 across three checks. The discount deadline of November 30 spurred rush at the sheriff's office as November totals near 800000 in receipts. after January 1 a ten percent penalty adds, and most large assessments are settled in November.

Funeral Held Yesterday for Miner of Rainelle
Funeral services for W. H. Mallory, 43, of Rainelle, a miner injured in an accident there and who died later in a local hospital, were held yesterday at Glen Daniel Is with interment in the family cemetery. Mallory was struck by a mine car at work and was brought to this city by the Caffee ambulance. Survived by parents W. A. Mallory of Glen Daniel, a brother Adolphus Mallory, and two sisters Mrs J B Smoot of Beckley and Mrs M L Johnston of Huntington.

The American Railway Association reports the week ending November 19 total coal loadings at 186,330 cars, down 56,684 from the prior year. Freight loadings were 968,103 cars, down 103,604 from 1926. Acquitted Officer to Return After Murder Trial
J L Williams of Bluefield, acquitted last Wednesday of murdering federal agent N Dow DiHon, will resume duty with the city police on December 1 after the 60 day leave. Williams claimed self defense and unwritten law in the incident at the Double Gates on Clearfork road. The jury acquitted him after 30 minutes of deliberation.
