Former Bristol sports editor dies after heart illness
Roy Elkins, 40, editor of the Bristol Virginia Tennesseean, died early today at Bristol Memorial Hospital after a long heart ailment and recent complications. A native of Kistler West Virginia, he built a long journalism career across several papers, rising to editor of the Bristol daily. He is survived by his wife Louise, daughter Laverne, son George, stepfather R T Harmon, and half-brother Robert Harmon. Funeral set for 2 p.m. EST Saturday at Christ Methodist Church.
