Eve Breck reports a major fall festival is set for Beckley from October 17 to 20 featuring vendors food and live entertainment. organizers promise family friendly activities and local highlights across venues in downtown Beckley.
A plan outlines a winner to be chosen among go cart events with demonstrations by the Tri City Go-Cart Club described as spectacular. David Abrams will chair Thursday night programs while E. E. Bibb Jr. leads Friday's events and appointed Carmen Feazell, Harry Lewin, Walter Duncan, Mrs. Reginald Meyers, and Robert Thomson as committee members. Pace is set to rise Friday with the queen selection.
An event to recognize all new residents will feature a ribbon ceremony and a possible hunters and fishermen barbecue dinner. The dinner date may move to Friday when plans are finalized and the affair will be informal and open to spouses.
Saturday's schedule will be headed by Bill Wilbur with Abrams. They expect to announce committee members soon. Prizes for floats, a morning movie, and a parachute drop by the Military are planned, with more details on the Fall Festival Page 23.

Sullivan cites an Attorney General ruling affirming authority to appropriate public funds. Marion County Court and Fairmont City Council each contributed 5000 to the Centennial Campaign Fund.
Roanoke va Norfolk and Western Railway began a test through run at 7 50 a m delivering 110 carloads of coal to Consolidated Edison in New Jersey. The 7730 ton unit train from Hagerstown Md to New Jersey piers will be ferried by Pennsylvania Railroad onto barges for NYC area power plants.
Police charge Army Pvt. Eugene Roger Warner twenty one from Cherry Grove Pendleton County West Virginia with abducting and raping a twenty year old Peruvian girl. He reportedly AWOL from Fort Riley Kansas and dragged the woman into a car in Rock Creek Park where a canine unit flushed him from bushes. Warner is in Municipal Court held without bond with a Sept. 12 continuation.
More than 1,500 taxicabs in Philadelphia and Camden N J will be equipped with safety belts, becoming the nation’s first to do so. Belts will be installed for both drivers and passengers, announced by the Yellow Cab Co.
Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates announced from Pittsburgh that 360 miners will return to work. Two EFGA mines, Stotesbury No 10 at Helen with about 200 workers and the Eccles mine near Beckley with about 160, will reopen on a two shift basis the day after Labor Day, after a July 16 closure due to market conditions.
