In Reykjavik Boris Spassky and Bobby Fischer played their sixth straight draw of the world championship match. Spassky sacrificed a knight on move 18 but Fischer answered with a queen move that preserved the draw after 40 moves. Fischer leads 11 to 8 with five games left. a win or two draws could clinch the title for him.
The 19th match between Spassky and Fischer in Reykjavik ends in a draw after a long sequence of moves from both sides with no decisive material advantage. Both players maneuver through openings and middlegame trades before reaching a perpetual-like conclusion.
United Press reports a proposed ceiling of up to 10 billion dollars to speed full employment without adding inflation, if directed to domestic social objectives. The committee aims to cut unemployment from 5.4 percent in July to 4 percent by December 1973 and backs expanding public service employment.
James Wellman was robbed as he entered his Huntington jewelry store. Two bandits forced him to open a safe, taped his hands, and handcuffed him to a basement pole. His wife said the suspects knew his noon schedule. A second local jewelry shop suffered a separate break in for about $5,000 in merchandise.
Prince William of Gloucester, ninth in line to the British throne, died when his Piper Cherokee crashed on takeoff at the Goodyear Air Race near Wolverhampton. The aircraft clipped a tree, plunged, and burned. a witness described it as a mangled wreck. William was Queen Elizabeth II’s first cousin.
Funeral for Mrs Maude Harrington 49 of Frazier Harrington 71 of Man Glen Jean and former Oak Hill resident will be at 2 pm Tuesday in the Tyreenia State Police Oak Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Odd Fellow Cemetery. She died about 10 pm Sunday of apparent heart attack at Beckley hospital. Survivors include son Pen F Harrington Jr. of Brooklyn and several siblings and nephews. Friends may call 6 to 9 pm today.
The Raleigh Register corrects Mrs. Rita Kay Brock obituary to include her husband James Garfield Brock as an additional survivor. Mrs. Brock died Friday and funeral was Sunday.
U S bomber and fighter aircraft report extensive Sunday raids into North Vietnam and surrounding targets. Attacks near Haiphong, Hanoi area rail bridges and a rope of destruction left large smoke plumes as jets hit airports storage yards and repair facilities. In South Vietnam B 52s dropped explosives on Communist positions including Binh Duong Province while Quang Tri battle near Saigon enters its third month with government forces claiming 84 enemy killed in three skirmishes.
Irving says no one would expect a wife to wait after a 2-2 year term. He has two young sons Nedsky and Barnaby and wants them to see a psychiatrist to assess the ordeal’s effect. When asked if he would repeat it, he replied You must be out of your mind.
John T. Shirley 76 of Mullens died Sunday after a long illness and funeral services were held Wednesday at the First Church of God Mullens. Burial followed in Virginia Memorial Park Bedford Va. Survivors include four sons a daughter three sisters and 16 grandchildren. John Will Shirley and Mamie Shirley were his parents. He was a retired railroad engineer and a Mason. In Oak Hill Oak Hill Detachment State Police Officer Lively dies after heart attack October 29 1922. Final rites Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home Oak Hill with burial at High Lawn Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife Gretel Marie Munsey Lively a daughter Nancy B Lively a brother and a sister. Pallbearers will be District 2 State Police members. Burial at High Lawn Memorial Park Oak Hill. Friends may call starting Tuesday evening. Arrangements by Tyree Funeral Home Mount Hope.
Final rites for Annie Virginia Withrow 70 of Mount Hope will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home Mount Hope with Rev Harmon Davis in charge. Burial follows at Greenbrier Burial Park Hinton. She died Friday in a Huntington hospital of an apparent heart attack. Friends may call from 7 p.m.
