Golf Course Tragedy: Two Killed in Summersville Plane Crash
Two Greenbrier County men died and two Fayette County men were injured when a private four seat Cessna 172 crashed on the Summersville Golf Course after attempting to circle back to the Summersville Airport. Victims were David C. Weakley 45 of Ronceverte and Charles Everett Woodson 33 of Lewisburg. Injured were Garland G. Francis 50 of Charleston Heights and his 23 year old son Garland R. Francis. Witnesses reported the plane never climbed above 75 feet and missed players on the No. 6 fairway before crashing. The elder Francis and his son were treated at Laird Memorial Hospital in Montgomery. Federal Aviation Authorities have been notified.

UPI reports counterfeit ten dollar bills similar to a Wheeling case are circulating in Huntington. Secret Service agent Vincent P. Mroz says about 20 bogus ten dollar notes have been recovered, indicating a small operation. An ongoing investigation began July 25. A Huntington bank teller first found the bills, and an Ohio man linked to the Wheeling case was jailed in Atlanta on counterfeiting charges.

Retired State Police Sgt H D Gibbs will become superintendent of the Memorial Building in Beck ley Sept 1 succeeding Albert F Hazelwood after 22 years. Appointed by Memorial Board president Kermit A Locke the building houses Raleigh County Public Library and various offices. The auditorium seats 875 and hosts concerts meetings and conventions. Hazelwood retires after 22 years from Sept 1 1940. He began police service in 1928.

Countywide adoption of revised reading and handwriting series
Clinton Phillips, clerk of Raleigh County School supply room, stacks 18,000 copies of the revised Meggin reading program in Town District for first use this year. The series began in Marsh Fork and Clear Fork last year and will roll out to four more districts this year at about $26,000 for the three districts. The Zanier-Blosser Handwriting Series was countywide this term with 16,000 copies bought, and about 1,400 extra copies of the revised English Language program will be used in Marsh Fork and Richmond District schools.
