Faubus calls emergency session over school integration
Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus asks lawmakers to grant power to close public schools facing federal or court-ordered integration at Central High. He frames action as defense of states rights amid looming U.S. Supreme Court review and rioting last year. The measure would let him shut a school, hold a district vote in 30 days on integration, and let a student transfer state aid if needed.
