Huntington Street Dept. Workers Strike Over Pay Plan
About 200 Huntington city hourly workers in the street sewer and garbage departments walked off to protest a pay raise plan. They say they were promised 25 cents this year but the plan offers 15 cents this year and five more cents each of the next three years. Mayor Meek and Edward Ewing met with a workers committee but failed to reach agreement. A further meeting is planned as the strike affects garbage pickups today while sewer work can be done by supervisors.

Senate Passes Foreign Aid Bill
The Senate approved the foreign aid bill 67 to 27, authorizing a year of military economic and technical assistance overseas. The House already gave final approval. Fairmont Fire Kills Infant
A 10 month old infant boy Billy James Panasenich died in a Fairmont house fire on Tuesday evening. A babysitter and two other children escaped as flames destroyed the home. The infant likely died from heat exposure and smoke inhalation and was pronounced dead on arrival. the babysitter was treated for shock after the grease pan stove fire started the blaze.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS UPS West Virginia's first Job Corps Center for men opens at Neola Greenbrier County announced by E M Olliver supervisor of the Monongahela National Forest Tuesday. Thirty five youths are there with 30 more expected this week and total enrollment will reach 110 by early September.
