Red spearheads threaten Taegu as battle rages in Korea
Reports from Taegu and surrounding fronts say a Communist spearhead pressed within miles of Taegu before a combined American and South Korean defense halted the advance. U S forces began a counterattack along the east anchor of the battle line while Marine and Army units drove the Reds from the Naktong river area. The fighting claimed many enemy lives with few Reds returning to the west bank as U S and South Korean forces sought to stabilize the front and evacuate civilians from Taegu. Western Germany reports indicate a shift in steel orders and production limits tied to Allied plans to mobilize war economies.
