No-Load Funds Sell By Phone Shifts Market Rules
Four former load funds under Financial Programs, Denver, convert to no-loads and drop a 1,200 person sales force. They deploy toll-free reverse WATS lines, a 150-person staff, and five-day payment for phone orders, backed by direct mail and media ads. Analysts see broad industry impact as more funds may follow and investors increasingly favor no-load shares.
