In Miami Beach a GOP contest sharpens over how delegates are allocated for the 1976 nominating convention. A court ruling challenged the bonus votes tied to past election results while liberals push a district-based plan and a 50 50 gender split rule advances in a subcommittee.
Delegates representing 42 000 longshoremen voted to end a 20 day strike after accepting a report by union leader Jack Jones and Port of London authority chairman Lord Aldington. Workers attacked union leaders and clashed with mounted police outside the union headquarters during the conference.
Hijackers seized a plane at Pudahuel International Airport in Chile and freed five women and five children before 20 police escorted them to headquarters. Argentine and Chilean officials reported no violence as crew and passengers departed for Buenos Aires. The group claimed allegiance to three Argentine extremist factions linked to former president Peron and a Trotskyist outfit.
The government grounded nearly all sky marshals who were assigned to stop hijackings. Lt. Gen. Benjamin O. Davis said marshals are now mostly stationed at airport gates for passenger screening. The program began in 1970 with about 1,300 armed guards on flights.
U S Air Force F4 fighter bombers damaged a suburban Hanoi power plant and shot down a North Vietnamese MiG21. In Cambodia rockets hit a refugee camp near Phnom Penh airport, killing six in one family. One F4 was shot down, crew missing. a Cobra helicopter was downed near Quang Tri, one crewman killed.
West Virginia public broadcasting stations including WSWP TV Channel 9 Grandview gain from a one-year extension and 45 million dollar appropriation for public broadcasting. Rep. Harley Staggers says funds will support pension social security and black lung programs for elderly residents.

Mrs Lena Maud Jones 74 of Beckley died at 11 25 p m Tuesday after a long illness in a local hospital She was born April 17 1898 in Beckley daughter of Frank and Martha Boween Godbey Surviving four daughters seven grandchildren and a great grandchild include Cherlie Pax Nellie Kessinger Helen Bailey June Houston and Pence Houston She was predeceased by husband Walker Body at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home.
Final rites are announced for Fred A. Corley 62 Beckley with services at St Stephen's Episcopal Church and burial at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Prosperity after a long illness. Clifford L Walker 59 Chicago formerly Helen dies Aug 8 in Holy Cross Hospital. Margaret Ruth Canterbury 45 Kent Village Md funeral set in Fayetteville with burial in Huse Memorial Park. Survivors listed include spouses, children and relatives across multiple states. Friends may attend calling hours tonight. (RNS)
C H Pop Mullins 81 of Upland California formerly of Oak Hill died Saturday after a heart attack. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Stone Funeral Home Upland with burial in Upland Cemetery. He was a retired sawmill operator. Survivors include two sons Billy E Mullins Oak Hill and Howard Mullins St Petersburg Florida three daughters Mildred Quesenberry Louise Moone and Elmo Graff Ocala Florida 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Floyd E Williams 76 of Princeton formerly Beckley died Sunday in a Washington hospital after a long illness. A World War I veteran born July 31 1896 in Roxboro North Carolina he was a retired coal miner. The body will be sent to Lugo Funeral Home Bluefield for funeral and burial at Greenwood Memorial Park Beckley.
Blacksville mine foremen Herman Liddle and Dewey Mahaffey Jr told a state panel that violations of mine safety rules could have prevented the disaster. They said waivers allowing machines in air shafts with six inches clearance were revoked after the tragedy. Testimony also detailed machine movement on the same tracks and power interruptions during the episode. The 10 member board includes state mine officials and union and company representatives. Prosecutor Laurita warned witnesses their statements could be used in future indictments under mine safety laws.
William Addams Moomaw 74 of Daniels died Tuesday morning in a local hospital after a long illness. Born February 23 1898 in Shady Spring he was the son of John and Minerva Mann Moomaw. He leaves a daughter Violet Phillips Laurel Mississippi a brother Fred Moomaw Shady Spring and four grandchildren.

Mrs Ethel Harmon 76 of Sandstone died at 1240 p m Tuesday in a Hinton hospital after a short illness. Surviving are daughter Mrs Grace Burgess Oak Hill and son Willis Fayetteville. Body at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Hinton.
