Steel unions accuse steel firms of delaying bargaining
PITTSBURGH (UPI) The United Steelworkers Union says the Big 10 basic steel producers frittered away bargaining time with endless discussion and little action. The union warns a crisis could trigger a shutdown, noting wages have fallen in real terms since 1961 and demanding 17.9 cents per hour, while producers offer about 10 cents. A four month extension runs to Sept 1, after which a strike could occur.
