Jail Host To Garwood Man I Who Twice

Lumber Company Signs Union Contract in Mullens

The C. A. Shrewsbury Lumber Company signed a union contract with the United Construction Workers. Luke Brett. regional director of the UCW announced the agreement granting 10 to 15 cents an hour raise with minimum 85 cents per hour and up to 1.28 for classified work. One week vacation for one year service and two weeks for over three years. Vacation pay provided. The contract establishes a union shop and check-off system. Three Outstanding Graduates Honored By Civic Clubs

Mullens High School honored three graduates for journalism and music. Verna Eloise Bolen won the Mullens Civic Club journalism award for the school paper the Mullens Hi-Lights. Sweetsee Carter received a music pin from the Mullens Women's Club and will study music at Concord College. William Holroyd Jr was recognized for assisting the faculty as an accomplished pianist and will major in piano at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

Postmistress Isabel Feazell of Beckwith Dies

Funeral services are held for Isabel Feazell postmistress of Beckwith and resident for years. The service is at 2 p.m. at Cotton Hill Baptist Church with Rev R W Lusk officiating. Burial follows at Frice Cemetery. Surviving are her husband A J H Feazell two sons Elmer Lee and William Ralph two daughters Claris Rebecca and Betty June Feazell one sister Mrs Bessie Blakly one brother Woodrow Arthur and her stepmother Mrs Cornelia Arthur.

Eight Fayette Countians Enter Sanitariums in July

Eight Fayette County tubercular patients were admitted to state sanitariums in July, according to a Fayette County Tuberculosis Association report. A July clinic drew 30 attendees, 80 people were X-rayed, seven tuberculin tests were given, and 11 physical examinations were conducted. The association distributed 275 booklets and leaflets in its educational campaign.

Four Year Old Girl Recovers From Foot Operation

Anna Lee Brown four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Boyd B Brown Jr of South Mullens is recovering from a foot operation at Milton Memorial Hospital Milton and will soon return home. She has been hospitalized the past four months with infantile paralysis and has been a patient at the hospital several times. Previously articles were published and 150 letters were written to physicians patients committees and others according to the report.

Mullens Donald Duncan seven year old son of Mr and Mrs G V Duncan of South Mullens was taken by his mother to St Marys Hospital in Huntington for examination of his left foot. The foot has been slightly drawn since a cast was removed from his left leg after a car struck him in South Mullens in June. Return from Visit Pineville Mrs M P Howard returned from Glen Rogers after visiting her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs W S Brooks.
