Continental League Seeks Starter Status With Major Leagues

CHICAGO AP The Continental League aims to launch as a third major league, meeting with expansion committees of the American and National leagues. Founder Bill Shea and president Branch Rickey say they can answer the majors 10 point plan, including territories, ballpark size, player salaries, pensions, schedules, city populations for franchises, and ownership rules. Rickey noted they can answer yes to all points except territorial indemnification. The group offered the American Association 40 cents per paid admission in the year major league status is granted, quadruple the current 10 cents. Shea criticized Hank Greenbergs remarks that the plan fails, saying minor league baseball is collapsing and a franchise isnt worth a quarter.
