Rites Held For V C Perkins Fire Creek official
Funeral services for V C Perkins retired superintendent of the Fire Creek Coal Company near Thurmond were held at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church with Rev Robert Ray presiding. Burial followed at Hightawn Memorial Park. Perkins served as mine superintendent for about ten years and was active as a church elder and Masonic Lodge member. He left a wife Elizabeth, a daughter Pete, and sons Harry P Thomas Jr, plus a granddaughter Carol Ann Thomas, all of Oak Hill. Pallbearers included George Lowry W R Herndon W Hummick Fred Smith Jack Higgins and E E Straughan.

Legion Auxiliary To Meet Friday in Fayetteville
Lafayette Unit 149 of the American Legion Auxiliary will meet in the Circuit Court Room on Friday night August 2 at 7 30. Officers will be elected for the coming year with Miss Georgia Dummitt presiding. Miss Sadie Sandoval, employee of Steele Drug Co, was admitted to Raleigh General Hospital Beckley on Wednesday for an appendectomy planned Thursday morning. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfonso Sandoval of Alpeca, report her condition not serious at entry. Nearby, visitors from Arizona and Virginia arrived for a brief stay with relatives, then planned to continue home.
