Mullens Lions Club plans a May fundraiser with nine bulb bags sold house to house from May 1. Proceeds aid Little League Baseball eyeglasses for needy children and other club projects. Local firms will act as bulk points and members will distribute bulbs to neighbors.
Mount Hope youth Lawrence Evans, 14, was treated for leg cuts after a bicycle car collision on Pax Road at 6 45 p m Sunday and released from Oak Hill Hospital Monday. He stays with grandmother Edith Evans as the school term ends. parents Floyd and Mrs Evans reside at L Cabin Creek.
Reverend I W Gillespie and his wife celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary observed April 24 by planning a fishing trip in Tennessee. They left home Monday and will meet Mrs Gillespie's son Donald Dick in Frankfort Kentucky. A surprise shower for the pastor at Herndon Methodist Church featured several local guests.
Whitesville Rotary Club will host Hillman Lyons general manager of the Charleston Senator Baseball Club as guest speaker at the Thursday meeting. The event, held at Whitesville Junior High School, highlights local support for a triple A team with many paying customers from outlying areas. James Billips of the Charleston Young Men's Christian Association outlined the organization's various groups. Lyons is touring social and fraternal groups to foster better understanding of the project.
An origin destination survey to decide the need for the Oak Hill by-pass is conducted today and Wednesday under the State Road Commission Planning Division. Collins High School seniors question north and south bound drivers at Pea Ridge and Main Street near the Minden Road intersection.

A downtown Man incident started by an exploding neon sign damaged a store and scorched the roof of an adjacent shop. Lt. Robert Mitchell of the volunteer fire department tentatively blamed the blaze on the Southern Auto Store window before firefighters contained the fire.
John David Hamilton president of the Farmers Merchant Bank Summersville was killed when a dynamite charge he planted to divert a creek exploded due to a miswired detonator. Coroner ruled accidental death. He is survived by wife Maude Groves Hamilton and three foster sons. Body at White Funeral Home Summersville. Arrangements incomplete.
The Supreme Court was asked to grant an appeal from a Fayette County order requiring removal of obstructions from a street in Wolf Creek Gardens near Oak Hill. Charleston National Bank and Robert E. Kelly Jr. as trustees appeal. Frank E. Thomas opposes, claiming a right to remove obstructions for access to Fayette Airport. The lower court granted Thomas an injunction to remove fences gates and ponds and dismissed the trustees suit for trespass and destruction of property.
Corinne worker Johnny Widener aged 43 received a right wrist injury in a fall from a motor at the Stephenson mine. Pineville’s Oscar Pais, 45, required follow up care after a Tuesday incident in which his right foot was caught in a railroad car coupling at the Itmann mine.
Oceana residents push to finish a 36 parity nine hole golf course on 78 acres leased from the Clear Fork Valley Golf Association. The project began Oct 31, 1957, with Greens supervised by Mike Koenig and a bridge planned across the river. Limited use hoped for July 1 with a maintenance man on site and possible weekly pro instruction.
Oak Hill Sub-district Methodist Youth Fellowship elected its officers for the coming year at a Mount Hope meeting. Officers named were Nancy Lively as president, Lowell Perkins as vice president, Alice Strickland as secretary treasurer, and Rowena Bryan as publicity chairwoman.
