Wintry weather slowed contractors on the Harper grade crossing elimination bridge. Opening to traffic is now planned for July 1. The 553 foot span is 87 percent complete with bituminous surface and concrete hand rails in place. Estimated total state cost near $120000. Campbell Construction of Lynchburg employed about 25 workers. Approaches required 35000 cubic yards of earth, 75 percent fill and 25 percent cut. A highway curve near Beckley will be removed by cutting through the Mary E Harper estate, relocating the road and leaving a land strip to the Harpers.

Retired Lawyer Hawley Dies After Long Illness
Adolphus W. Hawley aged 86 died at his Clark street home at 9:30 this morning from paralysis and old age. He moved to West Virginia in 1860, taught school in Raleigh county while studying law, and later practiced. He served as jailer in 1890 under Sheriff W. T. Shumate and spent years retired. Surviving are his wife, three sons Robert Price Hawley Edward Dale Hawley and Harry H Hawley, a brother John F Hawley and two grandchildren. Funeral at First Baptist church Saturday at 2:30, burial in Wildwood Cemetery.
