Dodd Faces Probable IRS Claim Over Dinner Income
Washington officials said there is a probability of a government tax claim against Sen. Thomas J. Dodd for more than 100000 dollars in income from dinners in 1961 1963 and 1965. The IRS confirmed an investigation into whether the dinners were campaign fund raisers or tributes. If the dinners were for campaign use and funds used personally a claim could be made. The inquiry centers on the purpose of the dinners and potential tax liability.

Rent supplement provision sails through Senate vote
The rent supplement provision, approved by the Senate, authorizes annual appropriations up to 150 million for subsidies aiding low income families. Senate action reversed an earlier move to cut 12 million from the program. Senator Randolph praised the plan as vital to housing needs, while a House version allowing local vetoes over projects sparked liberal opposition. The measure passed 72 to 12 and moves to a House Senate conference. Johnson originally sought 30 million to start the program.
