Missing Women After Dinner Hunt Continues Across State

Two women left a Weston restaurant after 9 30 p m and aimed to reach home by 11 p m. Their families reported them missing the next morning, triggering one of the state s largest ongoing hunts with no clues about their whereabouts or the car. Weston authorities lead the search.

Proposal To Drain Reservoir Studied In Hunt For Women

Clarksburg Water Board met to consider draining Buffalo Reservoir eight miles south of Clarksburg to aid the ongoing search for missing women Mrs. Juanita Ferguson and Mrs. Virginia Conley. Divers and multiple agencies conducted a large weekend search with no findings. Reservoir levels were lowered nine feet, leaving about 175 million gallons as officials weighed water shortages and safety.

Randolph Holds Back On Highway Fund Plan

Washington AP Gov Cecil Underwood’s plan for funding the Highway Trust Fund lacks full backing from Sen Jennings Randolph of West Virginia. Randolph warns 1% billion annual highway user taxes may fix one problem while creating others. He cites risk to the Interstate program as funds dwindle, with West Virginia facing sharply reduced allocations for fiscal 1961 and 1962.

E Gaujot Bias former state commander of the American Legion and former state liquor commissioner died in a Williamson hospital after a stomach ailment. Senate Hearings Set On Bill To Form Conservation Corps

Senate hearings will be held on a Youth Conservation Corps bill introducing a 150000 member program for ages 17 to 23 with pay around 78 dollars monthly plus training. Cancer Crusade reports a $4147 total raised in 1959

The Raleigh County Cancer Society treasurer Mrs. John C Ward reports a total of $4147 02 raised so far in the 1959 Crusade for Cancer. Prince Coal Co Ramp Picketed In Dorothy West Virginia

State police and a Raleigh County deputy sheriff reported peaceful picketing at the Prince Coal Company loading ramp in Dorothy. United Mine Workers of America pickets protested coal from non union mines as two truckloads were moved before drivers halted deliveries. District officials called the event a minor issue with some drivers paid below union scale.

Power Failure Hits Beckley Across City

About two thirds of Beckley lost electricity from 10 am Sunday until about 1 am when a transformer on Beaver Avenue malfunctioned. A spare transformer was connected to restore service. Affected areas included the 1921 ByPass area East Beckley and Sprague. It was the first failure since the 1941 transformer was installed. Some churches used piano music as the organs could not operate.

Raleigh Driver Freed On Bond

Walter Hoskins of Raleigh was released from Raleigh County Jail on a $500 property bond to appear in City Police Court for a reckless driving charge. He was jailed at 4:25 a.m. Sunday after arrest by City Police. Ronald Howard Scott, 16, of Sunrise Avenue, posted a $20 bond for his appearance after a 10:45 p.m. Sunday speeding citation.

Lillybrook No. 3 Mine to reopen with 100 workers

Lillybrook No. 3 Mine will reopen May 4, employing about 100 of the 300 cut when it closed April 1. No reason given for the reopening. R. B. Williamson, president, said all old workers will be recalled by seniority under the union contract as one section resumes operations. He expressed hope conditions remain favorable.

New Policeman To Start Work In Beckley

Beckley welcomes its 18th police officer John Earl Miller 28 arrives to begin duty this Friday. A former telegraph operator with Chesapeake and Ohio Miller attended Woodrow Wilson High School and belongs to the Beckley Archery Club. He is married to Anne Springer whose family resides at 216 Edgewood Drive. Miller’s mother is Lula Miller and the late W H Miller.

State Police Captain Relieved Of Command

CHARLESTON (RP) State Police Capt. W. W. Murphy was relieved of command of Co. C with headquarters at Elkins as of last Saturday for insubordination. Supt. Hazen Fair disclosed he would be on leave of absence until May 25 when he will be retired.

Mississippi Judge Denounces Kidnapping of Negro Prisoner

In Poplarville Mississippi Circuit Court Judge Sebe Dale denounced the kidnapping of Mack Charles Parker a 23 year old Black prisoner accused of raping a white woman saying it has opened the flood gates of hate and hell. Parker and his abductors were the focus of a two state manhunt led by FBI agents as Parker’s trial was set to proceed with no defendant in custody and with spectators and reporters filling the courthouse amid tense regional reaction.
