Power Line Expands to 765000-Volt System Across AEP Territory

The interconnection links the existing 345000-volt grid with new 765000-volt lines tied to Allegheny Power System and Virginia Electric and Power Company. It crosses five AEP operating regions and benefits Kingsport Power Company and major plants like Ohio Power’s Rammer and Kentucky Power’s Big Sandy, with future ties to Blue Ridge hydro development. Groundwork traces to mid-century 138000-volt lines and test projects at Tidd and Apple Grove, showing how higher voltage lines dramatically increase capacity with roughly double cost.
