Four County Bands to Enter Bluefield Regional Contest

Four Raleigh County schools will compete in a regional band contest in Bluefield tomorrow, announced D. W. Bryson county schools superintendent. Schools include Mark Twain Store Woodrow Wilson and Shady Spring. Bands from other southern West Virginia counties will also participate, Bryson said.

Three Injured When Car Runs Into Truck Near Sinks Place

Oak Hill hospital treats three occupants of a Bluefield car after a collision with a mine props truck on Route 21 near Sinks Place around 1 30 p m yesterday. Injured are Rosella Ammar Lydia Ammar and George Kawaja. The car driver suffered shock and hysteria.

Band Boosters Day in Mount Hope Plans Growth

Mount Hope marks Band Boosters Day as residents are urged to join the club. Director David E. Carter says the band will double in size with about $2,000 for new instruments and nearly $1,100 for ordered pieces. Membership funds will cover the instruments as the group attends the county festival and state convention in Huntington. Individual lessons will be offered to current and prospective members in summer, with focus on the junior band.

Oak Hill Band Promoter Urges Music Study at Banquet

Charles Gorby of South Charleston told Oak Hill High School band members at a Lions Club banquet that study of music and practice are essential. E N Goode welcomed attendees while band president Charles Bragg director T G Mackey and principal Joe R Oliver offered thanks. A chicken dinner was served and a dance followed in the gym.

Fayette Bands Rehearsal Prepares for County Concert Parade

Six Fayette County bands rehearse at Oak Hill High School for a county concert at the auditorium. About 110 musicians will stay with Oak Hill hosts, with sessions starting at 10 30 a m. Saturday they parade in uniform from Gauley Bridge Montgomery Fayetteville Mount Hope and Oak Hill, then audition for Merbert Tiemeyer Cincinnati Ohio to enter the state festival at Huntington in May.
