UMW District Office May Move to Mt Hope

Mt Hope district 29 United Mine Workers could relocate headquarters from Beckley to Mt Hope pending approval. George J. Titler said the invitation from the Mt Hope businessmen’s association spurs the move. Titler and C. E. Jones praised local support during John L. Lewis Day celebrations as a magician and singer entertained guests.

Court Denies GOP Request to Name Third Precinct Commissioner

Raleigh County Court denied a Republican request to allow the party polling majorities in 108 precincts of the 1946 general election to name the third precinct commissioner for the May 1 primary. The court will appoint the disputed commissioners itself, with the two major parties each naming one commissioner and one clerk.

Baptists to Hold West Virginia Young Adults Meeting

Minden Youth Struck by Auto

An 8 year old boy, Steve Stosen Jr., was struck by a car while crossing near his home in Minden. He suffered a broken shoulder and was taken to Oak Hill Hospital where his condition was reported as good. The driver identified as McDonald Wilson of Oak Hill was questioned by state police corporal F E Springer.

Missionary Society to Convene at Scarbro Church

The Fayete County Baptist Association missionary society will hold its sixth annual meeting at Scarbro church on Tuesday April 27 at 10 am. The event gathers members from area congregations for reports missions and fellowship.

Senior Scouts to Conduct Dance at Oak Hill High School

Wesler reports the Senior Girl Scout Troop will host a spring formal at Oak Hill High School on May 27 from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. Funds come from a bake sale Saturday morning. Glen Rogers Man Expires at Home

Thomas J. McKeown, about 70, was found dead at his home in Oak Hill. Death attributed to natural causes. The body lies at Tyree Funeral Home with arrangements pending.

Oak Hill high school to host two week cheerleading class

Miss Sue Scott leads a two week cheerleading class at Oak Hill High School from 3 to 5 pm daily. From 22 candidates three varsity and four junior high cheerleaders will be chosen.
