Five men faced fines or sentences after hearings before Magistrate W H Level. Jesse Slay of Red Star paid 20 dollars plus costs for starting a fire near woods without a permit and 25 dollars plus costs for abandoning it. Fulton Woodding of Minden was fined 20 dollars plus costs for starting a fire without a permit. Lloyd Jordan of Lochgelly pled guilty to carrying matches in the Lochgelly mine and was fined 10 dollars plus costs. Elza Olen Caldwell of Page pled guilty to driving with taillights out and one front light out, fined 10 dollars plus costs. Kishan Singh, arrested for loitering at Oak Hill City Hall, was found guilty and sentenced to BY days in county jail.

Taxicab and Trucks Collide in Beaver Crash
A taxicab and three trucks collided in Beaver causing about 1500 in damage. William Rozmislowicz 22 of Springfield drove the lead truck carrying a second truck and towing a third. N W Bridgeman 55 Beaver taxi operator. No injuries and no arrests. Wires and a utility pole were damaged and replaced. Trucks were 1947 International en route to Lumberton NC.

Motorman Bernard Walker Killed in Alpoca Mine Accident
Bernard V. Walker, 36, main line motorman for the Alpoca mine of Gaston Coal, died instantly when the motor sideswiped a cut of loaded cars. The incident followed a prior day injury to Eddie Lee Ford, a loader, who suffered fractures from falling rock. Walker’s funeral arrangements are set in Mullens with services at his home and burial in Mercer County cemetery. he is survived by his parents, wife Thelma, seven children, and two daughters.
