Hutchinson Resigns to Start Private Law Practice

Paul R. Hutchinson Jr., Raleigh County assistant prosecuting attorney since January 1968, resigns effective June 1 to enter private practice in Beckley with offices at 111 Main St. Thomas Canterbury named as his successor. Hutchinson, 35, a WVU Law School graduate, has been active in airport development, state and regional boards, and community projects. He and his wife with two children reside at 109 Pineridge Drive.

Francis Byrnes Dies Veteran Statesman at 92

Flags flew at half staff as James Francis Byrnes, a leading figure in WWII mobilization and postwar diplomacy, died at his home at 92. He served as associate president, secretary of state, governor, and Supreme Court nominee, guiding wartime policy and Potsdam diplomacy. His state funeral was pending at the South Carolina statehouse rotunda.

Capias Issued For Return Of Burrell For Death Trial

A capias was issued in Raleigh County Criminal Court to compel Henry David Burrell to return from Florida to face trial for the November 30 1971 shooting death of Jesse Ronald Minor. Burrell previously fled to Virginia and is reportedly held on a Florida felony charge. he had been free on a 7000 dollar bond. The judge set the jury for 9 30 a.m. Wednesday unless notified otherwise.
