Disappearance of Two Clarksburg Women Remains Unsolved

A second night passes with no sign of 30 year old Juanita Ferguson and 54 year old Virginia Conley, last seen leaving Beckley for Clarksburg after a Briarcliff Garden Club meeting. State Police and volunteers search two routes via Buckhannon or Weston as helicopters and a plane assist, with no leads and the Buick car reported missing.

Police Arrest Sprague Man For Having Lottery Tickets

A Sprague resident Aide Richard Arnold Pankey was released from Raleigh County Jail after posting bond while awaiting Grand Jury action on a charge of possessing lottery tickets. Deputy Edgar Jarrell said the possession of lottery tickets is a felony under Chapter 61. Pankey waived preliminary hearing before Magistrate L. G. Daniel and also faced a speeding charge resolved by a $20 fine and costs. In Fayette County, Herbert Bloxson and Earl Tinsley were arrested near Oak Hill with numerous number slips en route to Beckley. They waived preliminary hearing and were ordered to face the grand jury, arraigned by Magistrate Bob Fields and released on $1,000 bond.

Oscar Williams Funeral Sunday

Funeral services for Oscar Od ean Williams age 56 will be at 2 30 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church with Rev. A H Wilson officiating. Burial follows at Sunset Memorial Park. Williams died of a heart attack in High Point North Carolina while on a business trip and had returned to work a month earlier after recent illness. He was born June 3 1903 in Prosperity a son of Burke Williams and the late Lakie O Neal Williams. He was a longtime Raleigh County resident educated at Shanandoah College and served as a deacon in his church. Survivors include his wife Macie Teter Williams two daughters Anna Dean Williams and Mrs Russell Enke pallbearers listed. The body was moved from Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home to Williams residence and then to the church. Honorary pallbearers are The Official Board of the First Christian Church.

Eccles Man Receives Aid From Rescue Squad

J. W. Harvey of Eccles was given first aid by the Beckley Fire Department Rescue Squad after becoming ill while working as a mason's helper at 308 South Vance Drive. He was taken to Raleigh General Hospital about 5 p.m., treated, and released.

Oliver Clippord a 39 year old iron worker from Huntington was injured in a fall from the Beckley National Bank building under construction about 9 30 this morning He received treatment at Beckley Hospital for back and rib injuries and was released at noon He worked as an iron worker on the project.

Two Men Taken To Federal Pen

Two men were moved from Raleigh County Jail at 7:30 a.m. by a U S Deputy Marshal to a federal penitentiary in Lewisburg Pennsylvania. James Russell Moore aged 27 and James Pennington of Princeton were listed with charges of inter state transportation of a stolen motor vehicle. Moore was jailed overnight during transit. Pennington remained in jail. Dennie Adkins of Glenview is held in the county jail pending arraignment on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was jailed at 10:30 a.m. Monday on a warrant issued by Magistrate Cotton White.

Flying Bank Robber May Be In Mexico

The FBI reports Frank Lawrence Lorenz, a top 10 fugitive, may be near Vera Cruz Mexico based on a sighting of a Piper Pacer plane linked to his loot. The craft, bought March 14 in Carrington North Carolina for 2800 in twenty dollar bills, was last spotted March 31 in Raymondville Texas. Lorenz is blamed for multiple thefts and a 26000 bank robbery in Hamilton Ohio.

State Ends Convict's Business Career At State Penitentiary

Hollie Griffith, a 69 year old convicted murderer and long time prison tailor shop operator, had his inside business empire shut down as illegal. He is transferred to Huttonsville Medium Security Prison for good behavior, leaving behind a bank account near twenty thousand dollars and property valued at ten to twelve thousand. His retirement follows internal rulings that the dry cleaning and tailoring operations within the walls violated the law. Griffith, once a model prisoner, exits with his dog Buster at his side and vows not to return.

McDowell County Man Found Dead In Jail

WELCH AP A man awaiting a lunacy hearing died in his Welch jail cell. Douglas Bullocks 42 of Hemp Hill was found by Assistant Jailer A D Tuttle after a noise. Authorities ordered a coroner investigation and believe Bullocks died of natural causes. He had been picked up after escaping from a Welch hospital on the same day.
