WVU will award its 1963 commencement address to noted historian Henry Steele Commager. Bee Sting Drowns Horse Near Airport
A seven year old chestnut horse bolted after a bee sting from its stable near Philadelphia International Airport. Owner George Holland chased but could not catch the animal. The horse swam a mile to the New Jersey shore, raced under a pier as tides rose, and drowned. Workers at a nearby refinery saw the horse struggle before being swept under by backwash and tide.
