Auto industry leaders say the worst recession is over after a strong March with sharp sales gains. Ford VP Leo Iacocca predicted April would outpace March, noting 110,000 Fords, Falcons and Thunderbirds sold and a 22 percent rise in the last 10 days. Md Firm Submits Low IRS Center Bid
The Scott S. Bair construction firm of Westminster Maryland submitted the apparent low bid for construction of an Internal Revenue Service Computer Center at Martinsburg West Virginia. The firm would construct the building and rent it to the federal government for 95440 with maintenance services. The rental would be 72000 a year for the 20 year lease without the services. Ex SRC Accountant Sentenced for Forged $500 Check
James G. Davis, 38, a former accountant for the State Road Commission, was sentenced to 1 to 10 years in prison for forging an endorsement on a $500 check. Kanawha County judge recommended Huttonsville Medium Security Prison. The penalty was reduced by the last Legislature from 2 to 10 years. Davis admitted the forgery in the SRC legal and right of way division. The check was made payable to Cyrus H. Gadd for legal services who had been paid in full before issuance and reported the matter.
