WVU Students Tour Southern West Virginia Coal Fields
Ten West Virginia University mining students and four faculty members completed a field tour of coal operations in Semet Solvay Itmann mine Pocahontas Fuel Co and other sites in Kanawha McDowell and Wyoming counties. The trip included plant inspections remote mining demonstrations and meals with company officials.

Oak Hill Junior Woman's Club announced winners of the poster contest themed The True Meaning of Haster. Top prizes went to Jay Waugh East End School and Jane Dove Rosedale with $3 and $2 respectively, plus Tommy Newbert Rosedale $1. Honorable mentions went to Wanda Yeck and Sandra Minneck.

Oak Hill Youth Survives Gas Heater Fumes
Oak Hill 16 year old Bitty Taylor was overcome by fumes from an open gas heater turned too high before bed. He collapsed at 3:30 a.m. when his mother woke him to deliver papers. He recovered and delivered papers about three hours late.
