West Virginia Institute of Technology students start a four day Easter vacation at 5 p.m. today with classes resuming Tuesday morning. The campus holiday mood began Wednesday night as the Sigma Tau Alpha fraternity hosted a nightclub style Easter dance featuring Ned Guthrie Jr.’s orchestra from Charleston. Registrar Annie L. Castle announced mid semester grades were sent this week. the grading period ended March 25.
A special preview of a new art exhibit at West Virginia Institute of Technology will be held Tuesday evening in the Men's Lounge from 7 to 10. The show titled Contemporary Trends in American Art is the second exhibit this year by the Industrial Arts Club. It opens to the public Wednesday and runs daily until April 29 from 10 am to 7 pm. R. Pierce, instructor, will lead the preview.
Victor resident Arthur Lovell Carnifax 73 died at 10 15 am Wednesday in a Charleston hospital from a heart condition. Born September 18 18_, in Fayette County he is survived by his wife Dessie three sons Nash Mouston Tex Leonard Cabin Creek and Raymond Belle one daughter Winnie Mills Lancaster C one half brother Laron Herbert Richmond Va. Funeral services 2 pm Friday at Mount Zion Church Saturday Road. Rev H E Smith Ramsey officiating. Burial Mount Zion Cemetery. Body at Thomas Funeral Home Ansted until hour before services then to church.
The Willing Workers Band of the Free Church of God met at Mrs. Eugene Hizer's home Monday night. A Bible quiz was conducted by Mrs. Henry Allen with a prize won by Mrs. Roy Trent. A Tech speaker on Art Appreciation followed by a sterashonic sound demonstration was scheduled.
A. M. Vickers of Montgomery announces his candidacy for the short term U S Senate seat in the August 7 Democratic primary. The 48 year old attorney has served as Montgomery mayor for three terms and city attorney for several communities. He also held the State Senate presidency in 1915 and 197, and was a Fayette County delegate and Lith District state senator.
Eight Oak Hill churches released Easter service plans. Notable events include sunrise services at 6:30 a.m. at many churches, guest speakers from India, special music by choirs, and Holy Week observances across Episcopal Methodist Baptist Catholic and Nazarene congregations.

Sunrise service at 6 am at Davis Baptist Church with Rev Claude Bailey as guest speaker. Sunday School at 10 am and an Easter egg hunt for children in the church yard. A second sunrise service at 6 30 am at Glen Rogers Community Church led by the church's youth group.

Sandra and Judy Jones are ill with mumps, while Mr. and Mrs. Sam Laxston and Peggy visited in Man Monday.
Whitesville merchants and businessmen agreed in a Tuesday night meeting to keep stores and offices open until 8 pm each Friday, adding two extra shopping hours weekly. The plan aims to ease Saturday crowding and may continue year round if customers approve, with two hours of free parking for out of town shoppers Friday evenings.
